The Specifics

Are you a fan and follower of all things GOOD? Help us fête the launch of our spring issue, which weighs the economic challenges and opportunities facing us locally and globally, by hosting a party that puts a creative spin on this quarter’s theme: Beg, Borrow, or Steal. We’ll award a $300 grant to the top-voted idea, so start brainstorming your fiscally sound pub crawl, beach bonfire, or rooftop shindig. Consider planning a public salon about economic concerns in your community, or a night of Monopoly board gaming. Then tell us how you’d use $300 to entertain and enlighten your fellow GOOD readers. The winner will receive a grant, plus a stack of 50 magazines—hot off the presses—to share with your guests.

The Party Planning Challenge is open for submissions between March 2 and March 23 (noon Pacific Time). From March 23-30, we’ll open it up to a public vote. Rally your colleagues and friends to get behind your effort and join the GOOD community in deciding which idea is most deserving of the cash to make it happen.

Connect with us on twitter at @GOODmkr and follow this challenge at #GOODlaunch.

Submission tips:

  • Include a photo or video that brings your idea to life.
  • Photos should be in JPG, PNG, or GIF format, at least 572 × 346 pixels and no larger than 10MB.
  • Write at least 3-5 sentences that explain how the $300 award will enable you to implement your idea.
  • Email us at maker@goodinc.com with any questions.

I submitted an idea last night but haven't received confirmation that it's been received. Is there some way to check and make sure that it was officially received? Thanks!

The economy is suffering at this time and almost everyone is doing what they can to keep afloat. My idea is to party on a budget with other benefits than just having fun. There is a local community center that also hosts the homeless that would rent their facility out for free for event like this. I would call it a "Depression Party." A number of things will take place at this party. Each attendee will bring some type of material possession (clothes, video games, household goods, etc.) that they would like to get rid of and swap it out for something someone else has. I would also invite successful business leaders from the community to network with the party goers and hopefully connect them with a job or job prospects. I would use the $300 grant to purchase decorations, food, and beverages. As a party favor, each guest will receive a copy of the GOOD magazine.
